Sir:

I have the honor to quote the following letter of the Director of Health of the Philippine Islands dated September 24, 1926, with reference to hams exported from

Hong Kong to the Philippines:

"In connection with the attached copy of

a correspondence from the American Consul-General

at Shanghai, in which it is requested that shipment of hams from Hong Kong be not admitted in the Philippine Islands, due to certain reasons set forth therein, I have the honor to request that, if possible, the American Consul-General at Hong Kong be asked to include in his comment a statement of the sanitary condition of ham factories in Hong Kong, the facilities therein for ante- mortem and post-morten examination of animals slaughtered for human consumption, and whether or not the hams exported to the Philippines from Hong Kong are manufactured in Hong Kong or in

other places in the interior."

The correspondence referred to is inclosed herewith. Will you please furnish through this office the information called for in the foregoing letter?
